All payments can be conducted securely through the app via credit card, meaning you don’t need to worry about getting a hold of cash. For the best taxi experience consider an established rideshare app like Uber or Lyft.

The city is a world class destination for you to enjoy before or after you set sail on your cruise. Iconic views at Miami Beach, lively South Beach, pristine Everglades National Park, bustling streets in Little Havana, beautiful architecture in the Art Deco Historic District, and much more await you. The Caribbean population influx also profoundly changed Miami's personality. It is now largely bilingual, with French and Creole also gaining a foothold with increasing waves of immigration from Haiti. It's hard to walk a block in Miami without coming into contact with Cuban food, Cuban music, Cuban culture.

PortMiami has capacity to handle the world's biggest passenger ships and is homeport (turnaround port) for numerous large-sized vessels. However, port's prime shipping business are container ships, ranking it Florida's largest container cargo port and USA's 9th-largest. Annually, it handles 4+ million cruise ship tourists, around 7,4 million cargo tons and 1+ million TEU-containers. The cruise traveler will find Yellow taxis right outside the exit doors of the airport and, generally speaking, even on rush hours you may not have to wait more than a few minutes in line.

Flying to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport (FLL) and and getting to Miami Port

Still, there is a lot of history here as it served as a processing center for Cuban refugees following the Communist revolution. Today it houses an art museum and is a gem in the history of Miami. As we said, downtown is near the port, meaning there are a number of interesting things to do and see right nearby.

Port of Miami Location

Specific drop-off locations are designated at each terminal, and each terminal has its own designated taxi area. Any airport departure gate will be well served by independent shuttle companies, and in Fort Lauderdale there are plenty of shuttle services catered to cruisers. Opting for an independent airport shuttle service will often be cheaper than a cruise line’s official shuttles. Rather than a coach, expect a minibus, and if travelling alone, expect to share the journey with other cruisers. Opened in 2018, Terminal A is home to Royal Caribbean Cruises and is the largest cruise terminal in the United States.

Port of Miami Waiting Area and Seating

The apron of the terminals was improved to allow for new passenger boarding bridges to the ships. Independent LotsIn addition to parking your car at the port, there are a number of independent lots on the mainland, across from the cruise port. While these lots aren’t near as convenient as parking right at the ship, they do offer transportation to and from the cruise ship. Hotel ShuttlesIf you are staying at a hotel in the area, then know that many of them offer shuttles to the cruise port. Some hotels offer the service for free while others charge a nominal amount for the service. Either way, it’s a simple way to get to the ship on cruise day.

Terminal G is a Miami landmark with its iconic sail-like roofline. It currently serves Royal Caribbean International (RCI) and Celebrity Cruises among others. It was completed in 2013 at a relatively moderate cost of $2 million. The 3-story facility has a VIP lounge, advanced security screening, check-in counters, and conveyor baggage system. Part of it has been incorporated into the new Terminal B construction. The body of water between these islands and the mainland is Biscayne Bay. Early on, resort developers looked to the Atlantic Ocean beaches of Miami Beach, beginning their development with the elegant Art Deco hotels at the southern tip, now better known as South Beach. As development proceeded northward its complexion changed, becoming more "high-rise" and grandiose, with amenities geared to a wider range of interests, from yachting to golf. Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its innovative ships and freestyle cruising concept. They offer a variety of itineraries from Miami, including Caribbean cruises, Bahamas cruises, and even cruises to South America.

More often than not, even a short 3-night cruise to The Bahamas will allow you to explore more than one destination. If you're afraid of getting seasick, this could be a good option, as you will not have to worry about any days at sea. The Bahamas is technically closer to the U.S., but then again there are many different islands in the Caribbean you can visit which will save you time and money on travel. You might also want to consider whether or not you plan on doing a lot of excursions and what type you would enjoy the most. The average hotel price in the Bahamas for two people is $175 USD.

How much is a trip to the Bahamas?

And flights, depending on when you fly and from where are about $375 USD. So, a week-long trip for two to the Bahamas including flights and hotel costs on average $1,800 to $2,000. Keep in mind additional costs for food, transportation, and activities or entertainment. If you have not looked at flights yet, now is a really good time to purchase flights for your cruise. If your Adventure of the Seas cruise is in late June or later, you will have the benefit of others determining what exactly everyone needs to do before your sailing comes around.

Purchasing cruise travel insurance can also mitigate the risks of travel emergencies. Don’t have a passport and still want to fly somewhere special? Consider heading to a United States territory, such as the U.S. For this reason, you’ll see plenty of cruises taking off from Florida, stopping off in the Bahamas, then looping back and docking in the United States. So, if you have the option, pack your passport and enjoy your cruise. However, it doesn't hurt to apply for one if you don't have one yet and have the time and funds.

How Much Does It Cost To Take A Bahamas Cruise?

Check with your cruise line before departure to see what documents are needed instead of a passport. Many require a state-issued ID and an original birth certificate if you don't have a passport. U.S. and Canadian citizens under 16 (or under 19 if traveling with a school, religious group or other youth groups) only need to present a birth certificate or another proof of citizenship. Other non-citizens will have to present other required specific documentation, along with their passports, for re-entry. This is also necessary if you plan to disembark at ports of call on the way to The Bahamas, as some countries, like Belize and Honduras, require a minimum validity of six months on travelers’ passports. If you’re traveling by sea, not having a passport won’t get you in trouble as long as you have other accepted documents and no emergency arises that requires you to fly back home.

As explained earlier, you don’t need a passport to travel to The Bahamas by sea, whether this is on a private charter, party boat, fishing boat, or star cruise/liner. WHTI-compliant documents such as your passport card, passport book, EDL, Nexus card, and citizenship/naturalization certification supported by a government-issued photo ID are sufficient to prove your citizenship. If you’re flying to The Bahamas, a valid passport book is mandatory for all travelers. You should also ensure that your passport has at least two blank pages to receive the necessary entry stamps and any other formalities. Some airlines may not allow you to board their flight without these. The passport will also prove your country of citizenship when you arrive in The Bahamas.

Whether you cruise multiple times per year or you're new to cruising, the goal of Royal Caribbean Blog is for it to be a useful resource for keeping up to date with what's new and exciting with Royal Caribbean. The key is to find a place that can get you a negative test as quickly as possible. Some locations can provide test results in a matter of hours, while others can take a few days. Moreover, some locations are free and some will require an insurance copay. You can create a profile and upload a photo of your passport. This means you may find substantial savings compared to booking flights on your own.

The Bahamas are an island country in the Caribbean Sea that lies south of Florida and Cuba. They are a chain of 700 islands from east to west with just under 400,000 people living on them. Coco Cay, an island in the Berry Islands in the Bahamas is one of the most popular destinations for people seeking a relaxing getaway. It is privately leased and used exclusively by Royal Caribbean for its cruises.

But the Bahamas offer many incredible qualities all year round. You will usually find good weather and beautiful surroundings most anytime you go. The Bahamas is a beautiful, welcoming island chain with so much to offer. You’ll find plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy like snorkeling on pristine coral reefs or kayaking among mangroves.

They will also ask you when you anticipate leaving the country as well. At the island itself, just your SeaPass card will do for getting on & off the ship. If a medical or personal emergency occurs that requires you to fly home from the Bahamas, or any foreign port for that matter, you will need a passport book. Again, it’s because you are flying back to the U.S. and not returning by ship.

The finest French river cruises to take this year

amsterdam to basel river cruise

With calls in Amsterdam, Cologne and Basel, this journey reveals a rich landscape of beauty and culture. I had read that if you have bad weather, you will be going opposite the weather, so you may only have 1 day of bad weather. If you are going AtoB, you could have bad weather for several days. We had 1 1/2 days to explore Zurich before boarding the ship. The last day of the cruise is actually spent in AMS so we had an entire day of touring / exploring. Going BtoA - you have a full day in Rudesheim, going AtoB, you only have 1/2 day.

Similar Tours

For navigational safety reasons, the company and the captain are the only authorized persons who can modify the cruise itinerary. Explore one of the many world-class museums in this historic cultural capital of Switzerland.

Pre & Post Cruise Extensions

Canals branch off from the main river course creating scenic walkways and bridges, adding to the allure of the ancient cityscape. Explore the red, half timbered houses of Bernkastel and play spot the castle as you sail further south along the Rhine Valley. A visit to the D-Day beaches at Arromanches is soothed by walking around the harbour at Honfleur, with its narrow five story houses that seem to have been squashed together like the keys on a piano.

Ships

But there is a church in the old town with beautiful Chagall stained glass windows. Our tour didn't include it so we slipped out early and did it on our own. Outside Zurich, the Rhine Falls is a worthwhile excursion. My wife and I will be doing this itinerary on the AmaCerto this coming September. After deciding on the Rhine and AMA, we decided to travel Basel-to-Amsterdam.

Castles & cathedrals

As others have mentioned, look at port times in each city for each direction. Following a leisurely morning of chocolate tasting and discovery, we set off for a couple of days in the radiant city of Lucerne. Enjoy an orientation tour of Lucerne, where we’ll marvel at its beauty, including the iconic wooden bridges spanning the river.

Journey Highlights

Because of the timing - cruise left Dec 7th - we weren't going to spend extended time pre/post in Europe but did want a day to over-come travel-lag. We'd been to Amsterdam 3x and love it but decided we wanted to see Basel CMS so we spent 2 nights there pre-trip and then flew home the day the cruise ended. In the end, I was very happy we decided on BtoA. While we loved the Basel CMS, once on the River, I felt the markets got better as we went north - Cologne (Koln) was just fabulous! I think it would have been a let-down if we had been there first.

amsterdam to basel river cruise

My husband enjoyed the walking tour and potato pancake beer stop at the conclusion of the tour in Cologne. Mt Rigi for us was wonderful - we booked at the train station - boat, then cog wheel train, then gondola. They are very informative at the train station - look for information office, right next to the Burger King. And of course my beloved chocolate heaven - Laderach stores. Did you do any of the optional or extra cost excursions? We're still waiting or our passport renewals so we haven't been able to complete our registration and see what's available.

Why Viking

Take a journey along Amsterdam’s network of canals or perhaps browse one of the city’s museums. Explore Angers with its Terra Botanica, a plant-themed amusement park, the Château d’Angers and its Apocalypse Tapestry and the museum of St Nazaire. The 96-guest MS Loire Princess adds to the experience as a luxury paddle steamer designed specifically for the river. The pink-sandstone facade of the Gothic-style Strasbourg Cathedral, with its cache of ancient murals and astronomical clock, looms large.

We felt that each stop along the way was better then the last going that direction. I believe that those who prefer coming from Basel feel that because the river is faster from that direction then they spend a little more time in some ports. (4) The Port of Amsterdam may unexpectedly decide to change the mooring places for cruise ships. In case of modification, an alternative will be set up as close as possible to the city of Amsterdam.

In Beaune, taste local camembert along with some of the world’s finest Chardonnay wines, and in Giverny, take a stroll through Monet’s beautiful garden at the house where the painter lived for over 40 years. Similarly, part of the central square in Libourne is surrounded by the traditional arcades and is especially lively on market days. At Blaye, Vauban’s 17th century citadel is a military masterpiece complete with village and ramparts to explore. In Strasbourg, we took the bus tour (had to in order to get to the center) and then walked around on our own. We had a delightful and eclectic lunch at a place in the center famous for carpaccio. Nothing fancy and the only bad wine we had in France, ever, but food was good.

We will be spending three nights pre-cruise in Lucerne/Basel on our own, then one night post in Amsterdam. We thought Amsterdam might be a good place to wind down a bit before heading home. You won't find departure times listed by the hour, but e.g. on AMA's website there is a tab "Detailed Itinerary" that lists departures as "afternoon," "late tonight," etc. BTW on our AMA Amsterdam to Basel cruise we did the Rhine Gorge in the morning, same as FotoPeg's experience going the other way. Where can I find information on port departures? On the various cruise line websites I only see day itineraries.

Join our morning tour as we explore the town on foot and then ascend by cable car to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, situated high above the town. After dinner we will visit a winery nestled within Cochem. Dive into the world of viticulture and wine cellar management, gaining insight into the region’s winemaking traditions. Sample the renowned Riesling grape, dubbed “the queen of white wines,” grown on Cochem’s sunny slopes. Afterward, take time to explore the village’s wooden houses and boutiques. (3) The Port of Amsterdam may unexpectedly decide to change the mooring places for cruise ships.

Discover the turreted fortresses, grand cathedrals, historic cities, medieval towns and stunning scenery of the Middle Rhine—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Taste the region’s renowned white wines, the roots of its terraced vineyards reaching back to Roman times. Savor the various culinary traditions of Alsace.
